Parwaz Playhouse

Beyond the Horizon is the story of two brothers, each living the other's dream, and the woman who shapes their destiny.
The play explores love's power to liberate and confine, exile and welcome home.

After selling out at the Downtown Urban Theater Festival for their debut play, GLASS, Parwaz Playhouse now presents its next production. It's the first great play by America's first great playwright. By managing to adapt the story to Pakistan in the 1960s and adapt the dialogue to standard contemporary American English, this ground-breaking theatre company is making a strong statement about the universality of great drama and the oneness of human experience. By making this their first feature length play, they pay homage to -- and place themselves within the context of -- the great, varied, and grand history of American theatre. As Pakistani-Americans, they see their parents' stories from Pakistan in the plays they know here -- and so setting Beyond the Horizon in the Pakistan of their parents is an exploration of how Pakistani-Americans experience American theatre. This novel play will also be an opportunity to pay homage to the hard choices their immigrant parents made. And, of course, like all great plays, it's an opportunity to explore the choices we make in our own lives as well.
